Karakusevic Carson Architects leading the team to renew Horatia and Leamington House for Portsmouth Council

Portsmouth City Council have commissioned Karakusevic Carson Architects to lead an expert multi-disciplinary team to create a high-quality, sustainable urban neighbourhood in the area of Somerstown. The project will replace Horatia and Leamington House, two 1950’s council blocks and bring forward wider area improvements.

The team will work collaboratively to develop designs that will be guided through feedback from the local community including the Horatia and Leamington House Community Panel, which includes former tower residents, local residents and representatives from local schools, charities
and businesses.

The ambitions for the project are to provide higher-quality social dwellings, are to create a neighbourhood which is greener, safer and supports healthy and active lifestyles, with more opportunities for walking, cycling, play and recreation. In response to feedback, proposals are planned to achieve improved streetscapes which connect to the wider neighbourhood, and will consider a mix of commercial and community uses located in key areas, to activate and draw people into the neighbourhood.
